Instrument IR (H) EHC Instrument Rating Course are JAA approved. We offer the course on the BO 105 and AS355.

Instrument Rating (H) Course

Due to continuously high demand for Instrument Rated pilots for the offshore sector, European Helicopter Center (EHC) has increased our IR training capacity.
We now have the pleasure of providing a flexible and tailor-made course, specially directed at students with individual needs in respect to their own work- and family pattern. We will prepare a training plan that will assist you in achieving your goals.

EHC has 3 full time IR instructors on staff, with very high experience from offshore operations, Air-ambulance and the Civil Aviation Authority. They will be able to provide our students with state-of-the-art professional training.

Instrument Rating Course - Practical Part

The EHC Instrument rating course is approved by the Norwegian CAA, and is in accordance with the EU/JAR-FCL 2.

EHC will be utilizing our Twin-engine full IFR BO105 or the AS355 helicopter for all the actual flight training. The BO-105 helicopter was previously part of the Norwegian Air Ambulance.

All simulator training will be conducted in AS355 FNPTII at EHC.

Pre-Entry requirements; Theoretical Part

Students wishing to obtain a JAA IR(H) must pass the theory exams in the following subjects:

  • Air Law
  • Aircraft General Knowledge
  • Flight Performance and Planning
  • Navigation
  • Communication

Students who have passed the JAR-FCL ATPL(H) (ATPL(H) IFR according to amnd6) examinations are credited with the above theory requirements. However, the IR(H) rating must be completed and applied for within 3-years of passing the last ATPL(H) exam.

The Norwegian CAA arranges examinations (sittings) 4 times a year. The examination period is a 3 day "sitting".

The examinations are electronic (PC) multiple-choice type, and all subjects have to be passed with a minimum score of 75%. The language is English.

  • 10 Hours IR-H training MBB BO105 / AS355
  • 40 Hours Simulator AS355 FNPTII
  • Operative briefings

Fees for Skill test, CAA and Type Rating Examiner are additional.

Please be advised, that is the minimum flight/instruction hours allowed by the EU/JAR regulations.
