Commercial Pilot CPL (H)
EHC is the leading Scandinavian helicopter pilot school and has for many years trained pilots for the domestic and international markets.
Our integrated training program and syllabus are approved
according to CAA-Norway and (European) JAA-JAR-FCL 2 - Flight Crew
Licensing Regulations.
EHC integrated training was chosen as we experienced that the
students get a more efficient learning and better results when
theory and flying training are integrated and progress
simultaneously contrary to the old modular training model.
Flight time requirements for the CPL-H integrated training are
135 hours compared to 150 hours required for the modular training
and thus the most economic alternative in Norway.
The school curriculum and facilities are designed to provide
students with stimulating learning surroundings in a professional
helicopter environment. Teaching takes place in modern, well
equipped classrooms, supplemented by the latest in training
devices. Instructional assistance and access to facilities
are also available to the students after regular school hours and
on weekends.
The main educational goals are:
(a) to instil in each student a high level of flight safety
awareness and a professional attitude (airmanship)
(b) to ensure that the required theoretical knowledge is absorbed
and fully understood and
(c) to achieve superior practical helicopter flying skills.
Theory
Based on earlier experience with different teaching methods, EHC
has chosen to let qualified instructors teach all theoretical
subjects in the classroom, which we find give the best and most
efficient learning benefits for the students.
Student learning progression is closely monitored through a
proven data based test and evaluation system (quality control)
designed to reveal possible theoretical or practical learning
problems. Such cases are given special attention with extra
instructional and advisory resources - special monitoring
status.
Flight training
Training flights normally start at Torp International Airport
which makes the student familiar with the air traffic environment
at a busy airport and also provide him with useful training in
radio communication and air traffic procedures.
EHC also make use of other training areas, such as
Treungen for bush and mountain training, and Fagernes airport for
high altitude training.
Our regular instructors are former EHC-students, in addition
we use former EHC-instructors now employed as pilots with the
large helicopter companies, such as CHC, Bristow and Lufttransport.
(Offshore- and air ambulance pilots.)
EHC puts safety as the number one issue and has a very good
safety record. Since the operations started in 1993, we have flown
more than 100.000 hours, educated more than 450 pilots and
never experienced any serious accidents.
The school in general
Contrary to practice at many helicopter schools, classroom
teaching is mandatory at EHC. The normal study day starts at
0800 with the morning operational brief; teaching continues until
1600. Classes are held on four days during the week except for
Wednesdays that are devoted to flight training and self-study.
The curriculum is divided into two main phases with several
structured specialized sub-divisions. During the first phase
(approximately 7 months), the focus is on theoretical, text
book learning in preparation for successful completion
of CPL(H) theory exams. Basic flight training during this
phase is limited to after classroom hours and on weekends.
The second phase follows the completion of the theoretical exam
period and lasts for the remainder of the course. The focus then
shifts to advanced flight training supplemented by various special
courses. This phase spans a period of four to six months,
concluding with practical exams and the (CPL-H) licence test
overseen by the official CAA examiner.
Admission to the CPL-H training
EHC admits suitable applicants between 18 and 35 years of age,
consideration may be given to older applicants. All new
applicants must pass our qualification/admission test to become a
student. This contains tests such as maths, english, psychometrics,
a 40 minute demo flight and an thorough
interview. New CPL-H courses are held twice annually starting in
February and August. Course admittance applications must be
submitted before 15 December and 15 May respectively. Course
duration is 12-15 Months and full time attendance is required.
